Why get accredited?
Employees that commute by bike have a third less sick days than those who travel by car – a company can save more than €200 per employee with one less sick day taken per year. Motorists have the highest number of sick days per year (9.2 sick days).
More employees on bikes means less congestion on site and lower parking costs. 1 car parking space can accommodate 10 bikes. Whether you are a large-scale or smaller employer, eradicating your scope 3 emissions will have a knock-on effect for congestion and leave you with more space on-site.
CFE certification demonstrates commitment to Goal 5 of the Irish Government’s National Sustainable Mobility Policy for 2022-25.
CFE Ireland will work with you to build your own Cycling Engagement Calendar, populated with key dates such as National Bike Week, cycle training days, online bike maintenance courses, cycling webinars, your own in-house bike mechanic days with our expert partner mechanics and EU-wide events with other Cycle-Friendly Employers across the continent.
For certified employers, CFE Ireland organises bike mechanic days with expert bike mechanics. Employees are encouraged to bring their bikes to work for a full service, free of charge. These mechanic days are hugely influential for cycling uptake.
Employees of certified cycle-friendly employers can avail of excellent discounts at Cycle Superstore, Ireland’s leading cycling retail and bike store.
In collaboration with Brompton Bikes, world leaders in foldable bicycles, accredited cycle-friendly employers can avail of the Brompton Graduate Bike Scheme. This scheme enables graduates working with CFE employers to use Brompton bikes throughout their employment, with a small cost incurred by the employer. Foldable Brompton Bikes are ideal for commuting, as they can be taken on all forms of transport. Current CFE employers availing of the scheme include the SEAI, the Department of Transport and Griffith College.
Our Dutch partners MobilityLabel are industry leaders in carbon calculation, and through CFE certification, accredited employers can find out how much carbon they can eradicate from their operations by having employees cycle to work. MobilityLabel conduct a mobility scan, where your total employee commuting distance is calculated over a year to determine potential CO2 savings made by having employees switch to commuting by bike.
We organise site visits to some of our top CFE employers such as the new An Post HQ and Grant Thornton in Dubin’s Docklands, and Dublin City Council’s Drury Street public bike parking facility.
